Service Projects

Many individuals and organizations work hard to make a positive impact in their community. However, often the community seems unaware of the effort and results due to low visibility and promotion of the projects. To incite community excitement, thought and planning must be given to small yet highly visible service projects that are well promoted.

We have designed the "Small Things Make a Big Difference" (STMBD) campaign to connect those who are already working on projects, those who would like to join the work in already existing projects, or those who wish to identify new projects to improve community quality of life.  STMBD is the completion of several small service projects with high visibility in the geographic area of interest to take first steps in building collaborative action plans and generating excitement about positive change.

Again, to insure quality and quantity, each Action Team is charged with working together on identifying and executing at least two of these highly visible service projects per year to receive their Certified Community Champion designation.

STMBD Focus Areas

Community Responsibility: taking care of your community, not expecting or waiting around for someone else to make the change happen; the charge that the residents and businesses of the area have to better and sustain the community; when people of an area voluntarily take action to maintain a positive physical, social, and personal environment; helping others in your community unlock their potential.

Community Partnerships: a group or groups of people or organizations working together usually to facilitate a positive change in the community; the aim of the partnership is to work together to assess the needs in the community and develop a coordinated response to these needs.  Working together helps deliver consistent messages and reach constituents through a variety of channels.  It also presents valuable opportunities to share resources, develop joint goals and objectives, and learn from each other.

Community Change:  the product of area residents and organizations taking responsibility for their community and forming partnerships to make things better for all through specific projects resulting from identified needs.

Community Spirit: being proud and excited about your community; caring about what is going on around you in your community; the people in the community get excited about taking action for and in their community and enjoy doing it.
